The 3/4th grade girl's lacrosse team won their 3rd straight game in a row on Sunday, April 22nd at Bethpage H.S! The girls opened their season 2 weeks ago in Hewlett with goalie Bridget Walters helping them to a 6-0 win against against the Hewlett girls. Leading the girls to victory were Bridget Finucane with 3 goals and Melissa Desiderio, Mackenzie McAllister, and Ellen Meegan with one goal each. The defense that day, led by Caitlin Kilcarr, Katherine Stewart, and Raquel Morales was phenomenal! Their second game was played at home at the Alva T Stanforth Athletic Complex against Jericho. This time goalie Mia Dolan led the team to a 7-1 victory. Nicole Devine led the scoring with 2 goals, her first goal coming just minutes into the start. We then gathered goals by Nicole Paprocky, Gabby Lally, Kathryn Sanford, Amanda Kozak, and Ellen Meegan. On the field the girls were busy keeping the ball away from Jericho with Kaitlyn Rojas, Kiera Ziehl, Kiera Shanahan, Alexis Kelly, Kiera Krishe and Price McAllister scooping up all the ground balls. With the skills these girls showed, poor Jericho didn't stand a chance. This brings us to our 3rd game win, with goalie Ellen Meegan. Again, in addition to the amazing saves our goalie made, our defense is top notch. Although you can't deny our girls can score, without the relentlessness of Katherine Stewart, Raquel Morales, Alish Haselbauer and Bridget Finucane, we wouldn't have the success we've been enjoying. Alish and Bridget also led the team in interceptions and Stewart picked up so many ground balls from the other team they became dizzy watching her shoot around them! Assists are just as important as goals in lacrosse and this week newbies Kerin O'Grady and Kaitlyn Rojas had their first! Other assists were made by Gabby Lally, Catherine Mitchell, Nicole Devine, and Mackenzie McAllister. We had 8 goals led by Kathryn Sanford with 2, and one each by Catherine Mitchell, Amanda Kozak, Mackenzie McAllister, Bridget Finucane and Nicole Devine. These goals would never have been made if not for the great passing and catching made between our middies and attack. Once the girls are ahead by 4 they need to make 3 clean passes IN THE AIR before they can score again. Have you seen what a girl's stick looks like? The pocket is flat! Melissa Desiderio, Emma Lawrence, Price McAllister, Danielle Criscitelli, Macy Turner and Mia Dolan all showed the Bethpage girls how to pass and catch like the pros! Another victory for Floral Park with a 8-3 win against a challenging team. The games have been great to watch and I see some real superstars coming out of this group!
