Mother's Day was quite the treat for the 3rd grade girls and their moms, as I'm sure the talk around the barbecue was all about the terrific game they played at Saturday's Annual Floral Park Lacrosse Day. The game, against North Shore, played at Sewanhaka High School, was a real nail biter. It was the first game where our Lady Knights were really given a challenge. They've been undefeated thus far and were playing an equally tough undefeated North Shore team. We were leading at the end of the first half 4-2, with goals scored by Kelly Quinlan, Kathryn Sanford, Amanda Kozak and Katherine Stewart. Our middies have incredible stamina and Catherine Mitchell and Shelby Melendez also have incredible speed, whipping by the North Shore girls like lightening. Also playing their part as middies were Melissa Desiderio and Bridget Funucane, who scored the only goal in the second half. Kymora Amabile had her first attempt at goal for the season. The North Shore girls gave our defense, led by goalie Nicole Devine, a very big challenge. Caitlin Kilcarr, Bridget Walters, Raquel Morales, and Brianna Carbone all had their work cut out for them and struggled to keep North Shore down to 3 goals in the second half. The game ended tied 5-5.
